BlueBlack x Diamine - Subway
Subway is a nice ink to start off the 10-ink Seoul City set from BlueBlack pen shop in Seoul. They worked with Diamine to create the inks, and together with London and New York, this is the third set in the City series. Each set is filled with inks themed to represent aspects and icons of a great city of the world. When lined up, the bottles create a skyline view of Seoul that matches the packaging.
Subway is a beautiful, multi-chromatic shading ink. I was worried that it would be too undersaturated to be easily read, but that isn’t the case. The base is a soft, gentle celadon green, something between a light olive and light forest green. As it dries, a dusty peach fills stroke centers, and a nice dark edge appears giving it good definition. There are subtle touches of blue, and a hint of pink, as well. Subway is a beautiful blend of influences.
In writing, this is a very wet ink with consistent, generous flow. In a pen with average or drier flow, it balances out nicely. I liked it on all six test papers, but drying time is my one complaint. Coated papers took the longest. Visually, I found similar results on uncoated premiums (Fabriano and Apica), so maybe that’s the better choice. Despite drying, it’s a nice writing ink.
I love the Seoul City set, and Subway has been a happy surprise! The set is exclusive to BlueBlack, but if you can’t visit in person, you can buy it from their online site. As you’ll see, there’s something for everyone in the 10-ink set. Subway is a beauty, and I’m impressed by how usable it is in writing. Stay tuned for more from the set soon!
