Yuyi Inks - Sunset Rain
I don’t have a lot of information on Yuyi. On the Fountain Pen Companion website, it’s grouped under a brand called Memory Fish. I don’t have any information to verify this connection, but I have included both names in the brands page here, as well.
Sunset Rain is my second review of inks in Yuyi’s waterproof series, and I will likely order more soon. So far, these pigmented inks have performed well beyond my expectations, and Sunset Rain is just as nice!
Sunset Rain is a bright, beautiful, healthy leaf green. It’s the green of chlorophyll, freshly unfurled vines and sprouts, and maturing bamboo. There’s a bit of shading with the right nib and paper, which brings straw greens and a touch of yellow, and emphasizes a garden-like vibrancy. It’s a beautiful ink.
Like previously reviewed Shaw Fog from the same series, Sunset Rain is a nice writing ink. It’s fairly wet and very smooth on the page. I’ve been using it in both a fine TWSBI Eco, and stub Eco, and it’s been a joy. Drying time is very fast on both coated and uncoated papers. It’s also fairly water-resistant, and that gives you a lot of confidence. I don’t recommend leaving pigmented inks in pens for too long, but I haven’t had any problems with staining, so far. It’s probably too light to really be perfectly office-appropriate, but there are others in the series that would be welcome in any office.
I can’t think of any negatives here. It’s a beautiful, water-resistant green, very inexpensive, and a pleasure to use. The series is available on AliExpress and seems to be listed under two brandings. Some listings say the maker is Tramol, and others say Yuyi (my bottles are clearly packaged as Yuyi, and the seller confirmed that the maker is Yuyi). Prices vary as well, so shop around! Enjoy!
