BlueBlack x Diamine - Burning Friday
This is 불타는금요일 (Burning Friday) from the ten-ink, Seoul City set from BlueBlack Pen Shop. The inks were made by Diamine, and this is the third City set (London and New York) exclusively available at BlueBlack Pens in Seoul, or through their website. The name Burning Friday comes from a Korean phrase common over the last decade that celebrates the weekend. Burning (불타는) Friday (금요일) is basically the same as saying “T.G.I.F.!” (Thank God It’s Friday!)
This is the red in the Seoul City set, and it’s more complex than I first guessed. In darker areas, it’s very much a blushing, tomato red. In light areas, strong influences result in more orange in shading highlights, giving something like a pumpkin red. It’s beautiful in writing with a nice, darkened edging that makes it pop.
Writing experience is very pleasant and consistent. Flow is smooth and wet, but it’s a controlled and restrained wet. I preferred it on coated papers, which brought out the nicest shading and edge. Apica uncoated, and office copy paper showed minor traces of micro-feathering, but this is a clean writing ink, overall. Drying was in line with the others in the series, and I don’t have any complaints.
I like Burning Friday, and I love the Seoul City set. BlueBlack offers a nice selection of brands (some hard to find) and a number of store-exclusive collaborations with brands you likely know and love. You’ll enjoy your time and find some nice temptations if you visit or check out their site!
So far, this set is four for four. Chicken & Beer and the others have been both attractive and consistent in writing. I really like this set! You can find it (and London and New York, the other two City sets) at BlueBlack in Seoul or on their website with international shipping available.
