BlueBlack x Diamine - Afternoon in Seoul
서울오후 (Afternoon in Seoul, or literally 서울 “Seoul” 오후 “afternoon”), is the sixth ink in the Seoul City set from BlueBlack Pen Shop. With London and New York, this is the third set that BlueBlack has worked with Diamine to create. All three sets are exclusively available at their shop in Seoul, or through their website.
Afternoon in Seoul is the first blue (and the second shimmer ink) in the set. Appropriately, it’s a gentle, afternoon’s sky blue with a touch of overcast light grey, and hints of pink and yellow in saturation. This comes through in stroke centers. There’s a nice, darkened edge on some papers, making it very distinctive and clear. Shading ranges from light to strong depending on your paper and nib.
The shimmer is a soft silver and quite well behaved. It’s more restrained in writing than many. There’s enough to decorate strokes without destroying shading completely. This is an attractive ink.
Writing experience mirrors the others in the set that I’ve reviewed. It’s a wet ink and flows generously. Shimmer didn’t cause any problems with flow for me. So far, all of the inks in the set have taken a bit longer to dry than average on coated papers, but on uncoated papers drying is very fast.
Afternoon in Seoul is an attractive ink, and it’s very nicely done. On some papers, there’s more color variation, and more shading than you may first imagine. This is an ink that will please many tastes.
I continue to enjoy the Seoul City set. It’s a very well-rounded collection, and it’s beautifully presented.
