BlueBlack x Diamine - Chicken and Beer
치맥 is the 4th ink in the ten-ink Seoul City set from BlueBlack Pen Shop. The name is a portmanteau taking the 치 (pronounced “chee”) from “chicken”, and the 맥 (pronounced “mek”) from the Korean word 맥주 (pronounced “mek-joo”). Together, we get “chee-mek” (chicken & beer), many people’s first choice for a happy, comfort meal with friends! For me, the spicy, crunchy yum of Korean chicken is the best, and 치맥 is the best way to enjoy it!
Chicken & Beer is a beautiful, light to medium orange with a gentle personality. It’s bright and cheery, but it doesn’t have the glare and aggressiveness of many orange inks. A full page gives you what you want in an orange, without forcing you to reach for sunglasses!
This is a very nice shading ink, too. There’s a lot of variation both light and dark, adding character to each stroke. A dark stroke edging makes it easily legible, even at its lightest. This is a very successful orange.
Chicken & Beer is a nice writing ink. The Seoul City inks are made by Diamine for BlueBlack, and this ink has Diamine’s consistency and smooth flow. This is a wet ink, and I like it best in average flow pens. As you can see on the writing sample image, this ink performed well on all test papers. There were no issues with feathering, nice stroke edging, and good shading.
So far, this set is four for four. Chicken & Beer and the others have been both attractive and consistent in writing. I really like this set! You can find it (and London and New York, the other two City sets) at BlueBlack in Seoul or on their website with international shipping available.
