Vinta - Pastel Pink Julia
For today’s review, I wanted a celebration ink, so I’ve chosen Vinta’s Pastel Pink (Julia 1991). The name Julia 1991 comes from a popular Filipino show called Julio & Julia. The show was about two magical twins, and first aired in 1991.
Vinta’s Julia is indeed a magical pastel pink ink. It’s a beautiful, soft, pale baby pink, with loads of dark gold shimmer. In the bottle, pen, and as it first goes down on paper, it’s a strange, ugly, muddy grey-green, but quickly turns into a whispy, cloud-like pink as it dries. (Ugly Duckling would have been a fun name, and appropriate, too!) Drying time was a very reasonable 15-20 seconds.
Although I didn’t have any problems with feathering, and strokes were generally well-defined even on cheap office copy paper, this ink isn’t without problems. This is a somewhat dry ink, and the shimmer content is so high that clogging can be an issue. Using broader nibs and with the right paper, readability might not be such a problem, but the ink is often too pale to consider practical for extended writing.
Vinta Julia is probably best used as an accent or decorative journaling ink, or for other types of art projects. I love the transformation in color from wet to dry. It’s a beautiful pink, with a dazzling gold sparkle, and in certain situations it would be difficult to find anything that could replace it!
