Vinta x BlueBlack - Dream A Dream
Dream A Dream (Panaganip 1446) is a limited-edition collaboration between BlueBlack (Korea) and Vinta Inks. It was released at the same time as a second ink called Monday Sickness.
Dream A Dream is not exactly as I had hoped, but it does perform very well. The splatter is far more interesting, than I find it in writing (and the swatch on the box doesn’t match the ink very accurately - much greener.) The splatter shows a lovely, slightly powdery, deep, dark blue with interesting peach elements rising to the surface in areas of pooling. There’s also a striking, copper sheen edging. All of this has the potential to take the ink from ordinary to extraordinary.
In writing, there‘s a moderate amount of shading, and it really adds character. However, in color I get a grey-black with a touch of blue, but none of the colorful undertones or edge sheen. It’s nicer than many blue blacks, but less inspiring than I had hoped.
Dream A Dream does, however, perform very nicely as a writing ink. It’s clean and sharp, dries quickly, and doesn’t show-through too terribly. It feels very much like Sailor Jentle BlueBlack, which I consider high praise!
I think Dream A Dream has real promise to excite in washes and water brush use. As the chromatography shows, there’s a lot of beauty hidden within. It’s also a very nice, workplace ink. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve tried anything like this from Vinta. Their inks are normally so multi-faceted, but in writing, this just isn’t, and that’s my only real disappointment.
