Tono&Lims - Seoul 댕기희죽희죽
Tono&Lims hosts a traveling event called A Space Walk where they bring together 20-30 retailers, artists, and artisans. It’s basically a mini pen and ink show, and a wonderful event. They regularly hold the event in various cities in Japan, and were recently in Taiwan. In Oct. 2024, they brought the show to Korea for the first time. To mark the event, they released four “Seoul” inks. I picked up two.
This is Seoul - 댕기희죽희죽 (Grinning Dengki) from Tono&Lims. I expected a terracotta red based on the label, but as you can see, it’s much more a delicious caramel orange brown. It changes slightly based on the paper you use (Bank paper brings out the red, and it much more closely resembles the brownish red on the label). I really like the results on Tomoe River, Midori MD, and some of the others I’ve shown here.
Shading is moderate, but generally a gentle variation, rather than dramatic changes from light to dark. There’s enough to make it interesting, but it isn’t overpowering. Good quality office paper actually seems to show more shading than many of the high-quality papers that I normally use. On Tomoe River, there’s a nice darkened profile edge, and it frames the color beautifully.
Writing performance is good overall, but I did find some instances of micro-feathering on some papers. On others, it’s nice and clean. I particularly liked both the color and performance on both Tomoe River and Midori MD. It didn’t do as well on the Cosmo papers, which is unusual. In terms of flow, I’d call it a moderately wet ink. Drying times were just a tiny bit longer than average, but no problem at all.
The four Seoul inks are event exclusives, but you will probably be able to find them at the next couple of Space Walk events, as well.
I have to say, if you have a chance to go to one of the Tono&Lims A Space Walk events, definitely do! It’s a celebration of all of the hobbies that bring us together, and a fantastic event!
