Starry Ink - Sodapop - Olive
This is Starry Ink Olive from the four-ink Season 2 of the Sodapop set. I added a healthy single spoon of silver shimmer powder from the packet that comes with the set. You can find the set on AliExpress, and I recommend that you do! As of February 2023, it is still available.
Olive is a nicely saturated, army green olive. It has the gentle earthiness that I like in a green. The base ink is very close to some of the popular olive greens and shades nicely in writing. It leans both lighter and darker in strokes, and while some olives show strong yellows on the light end, Starry Ink Olive maintains its identity well. Adding the shimmer changes its personality, and gives it a festive bling, but it covers much of the shading, as well. I’ll add less next time. Against this base color, there’s a hint of blue in the silver sparkle that is nice. It’s very attractive both with and without the shimmer.
Writing was smooth and trouble-free, which is a relief after the less than perfect experience with two of the others in the set. Olive writes quite well. Drying time was fairly fast on both coated and uncoated papers, but longer on my swatch card than in regular use. Smearing wasn’t too bad, and I didn’t see any bleed-through. It maintains a well-defined profile on both types of paper and is a nice writing ink.
I’m a big fan of Starry Ink’s Sodapop set! So much fun for only $20! It’s well worth the effort to find it. Order a set, experiment with the shimmer, and enjoy!
