LeeMing Ink Studio - Coral Sea
A lot of the inks from LeeMing Ink Studio in Taiwan are complex, multi-chromatic, and delicate. Coral Sea is really none of those. If light blues in general are not your thing, you may see this is “just a light blue”. If they are, then you’ll find that there’s no “just” here. This ink is an intoxicating, brilliant blue!
Most companies have a basic sky, aquamarine, or turquoise blue of some kind. Some are great, others a bit flat, but this is one of the purest, most electric light blues of the bunch. It’s bold and confident, but a good shading ink at the same time. Despite the variation, it never gets lost on the page (and it doesn’t blind you, either.) The ink splash hints at a touch of green, but in all other uses it is pure, summer sky, or Coral Sea blue. The chromatography was one consistent color, too.
It’s a wet ink (and drying was a just touch longer than average), but from cheap office copy paper to any of the five premiums that I tested, there were zero issues with feathering. The aggressive stroke-profile edging on premium papers really makes writing pop! It’s razor-sharp. Showthrough was less than minimal on all papers, too. It’s a great writing ink.
So, what’s the catch? Well, LeeMing inks are not easy to get, but I’d say this one helps make the effort worthwhile. I’ve found them on AliExpress in the past, and they are regularly available on Taobao. If you like the color, I’d recommending getting this because you know you’ll like it, and then getting a couple of their more unusual inks, as well.
A big thank you to @artfromtheginden on IG for sending this ink and others to my website for review!
