Krishna Ink - Mumbai Ink
This is Mumbai Ink from India’s Krishna Inks. Krishna Inks is the passion of Dr. Sreekumar, an MD by day, and an ink alchemist by night! Krishna inks are prepared, labeled, and packaged by hand in his workshop. Released in Jan. 2021, Mumbai is part of the India series of inks named for India’s vibrant cities. Today’s ink takes its name from India’s sprawling financial capital, Mumbai.
Mumbai is one of Krishna’s super-sheeners, and is a highly saturated, high-viscosity ink. The base color is a rich maroon red, but it often appears more as a dark coffee brown. The swatch shows a deep red-milk chocolate. In addition to the syrupy green-gold sheen, the splatter shows pinkish brown light areas, a maroon-brown mid-range, and red mocha dark areas. This ink is a symphony of color and texture.
As a writing ink, Mumbai performed consistently well. Strokes were sharp and clean on all six test papers. I saw no feathering, and very little bleed-through. Shading was only visible on Mnemosyne, and Kokuyo, and I preferred them overall. Sheen was a factor on all papers. Mumbai flowed smoothly, and it offered some water-resistance. Drying was the only real let down at 20 seconds on office copy, and 30-40 seconds on the five premiums tested. A finer nib would help, but this is a slow drying ink.
I like Mumbai, despite its slow drying, but you’ve got to be ready for that sheen! It’s a nice writing ink, and the rich brownish red is a beautiful base for the electric green sheen. Mumbai is often called the city of dreams, and this is exactly the kind of ink that artisan’s dreams create!
