Conklin - Vintage Purple
This is my first Conklin ink. When I read the name Vintage Purple, I was a little worried as for some reason, I picture a “vintage” purple as dark, and maybe murky. Well, when I put pen to paper, I found exactly what I like! This is a bright (but not blinding at all) and happy, with a nice, subtle glow. That’s an ink trait that I think of as very modern, and one I love in a purple. I think this is a beautiful purple.
From line-to-line on a page, there are some nice, light-shaded stroke ends. I wouldn’t call it a heavy shading ink, but there is enough to make it interesting. What definitely stands out is the darkened stroke edge profile. It really makes the ink pop and gives it great definition. Although the writing on my Tomoe River swatch image shows some feathering, I think it may have been due to fingerprints. This ink was sharp and crisp on all of my other test papers. I’ve used it all week and not had any problems with feathering at all. I don’t think it’s a worry.
Flow is wet and consistent, but drying is very fast. That’s a quality I always like. On cheap office copy, it writes very cleanly, but there is some show through. It wasn’t a problem on good papers, though. I think this is a very nice writing ink.
I was so happily surprised by this ink. It’s very close to KWZ Gummiberry (one of my long-time favorites), but Vintage Purple is a bit lighter with more glow. I think I like it better. You can easily find Conklin Vintage Purple, and it comes in a nice 60 ml bottle at a really good price. I definitely recommend it.
Special thanks to @yafabrands_official and @conklinpens_official for sending this ink to try. It doesn’t influence my review, but I appreciate definitely it.
