Colorverse - Clear Cyan
Clear Cyan is from Colorverse’s Project series. The Project series is a collection of sub-series themed around subjects such as astronomic objects, and Korean culture. They’ve been adding projects regularly over the past couple couple of years. Clear Cyan is from the first set of eight, which includes some real beauties. I’ve reviewed most of them.
There are a lot of options in light blue or turquoise inks, but Clear Cyan is a very nice choice. It may appear to be a fairly straightforward light blue (and on some papers, it is), but the name tells us there’s more going on here.
It’s difficult to see in the chromatography in the swatch card image, but the final band of color is a light lemon yellow. That yellow is the key to what makes this ink so interesting. On many papers, it pushes the blue towards the greens slightly and makes it a true cyan. I really like this aquamarine blue-green, and much prefer it to a simple light sky blue.
This is a nice shading ink on coated papers. There’s variation on all paper types, but on coated papers it is far more dramatic. You’ll also find bold, darkened stroke edges, so stroke profiles are clean and sharp on coated papers, too. There is a tiny bit of spread on some uncoated papers and office copy, but it isn’t more than I normally expect, and it doesn’t detract or cause problems. As for show-through, there’s little, if any to worry about.
In writing experience, it’s quite comfortable. Flow is wetter than average. You won’t get much water resistance, but drying times are average or better on all papers. This is an enjoyable writing ink.
Colorverse Clear Cyan comes in the beautiful, 65 ml ink drop bottle. It’s US$22-25 at many online retailers. It would be nice if they offered it in their 38 ml bottles to get that price down a bit. As usual, the packaging is some of the most creative on the market. Enjoy!
