BlueBlack x Diamine - Luxurious Purple
Luxurious Purple is from the BlueBlack Pen Shop Art Collection set honoring Georges Seurat. The three inks in the set are inspired by the painting A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, which covers the labels and packaging. The Art Collection inks are sourced from Diamine and are exclusively available at BlueBlack.
This is a dark night sky’s deep violet. On the painting, it’s a prominent color on clothing in the shadows, and shadowy it is! There are hints of shading on some papers, and I can tell that it wants to shade more. At its darkest, it’s very dark, almost like a dark violet vortex on sharp white paper. The swatch shows some sheening in both lime green gold and electric red, but in writing only traces appear on some papers.
This is a very wet ink, but it isn’t a watery wet. It’s extremely smooth and almost flows too freely! If the name Luxurious Purple didn’t come from the writing feel, it easily could have. This ink is pure decadence! Wetness didn’t lengthen drying time, but there is a very tiny bit of micro feathering on some uncoated papers. Don’t worry though, it’s not enough to cause any real concern. Show-through is probably a bigger issue, but that isn’t surprising in a dark violet like this.
Luxurious Purple is in a color range that is quite popular, and the swatch card comparison includes some well-liked similars. In writing experience, it is a very enjoyable ink. I recommend using it in finer nibs, and drier pens to avoid show-through if that is a concern for you.
Like the other sets in the Art Collection, BlueBlack’s Seurat set (A Sunday on La Grande Jatte) is beautifully presented and would make a fantastic gift! I hope we see them adding more sets in the future to go with the three released so far. You can find these sets (and other interesting store-exclusive inks) at their beautiful store in Seoul or order them online through BlueBlack’s website. For cheaper international shipping, it’s also available on shopping site GMarket Global (for the lowest US shipping cost choose “USPS” for your shipping method).

Special thanks to BlueBlack for sending me these inks as a surprise gift! As usual, my reviews reflect my honest opinions, and I always include both the good and bad based on my experience using the ink.
