BlueBlack x Diamine - Almond Flower
Almond Flower is the final ink in the BlueBlack Pen Shop store exclusive, Van Gogh Almond Blossoms set. This is one of three, three-ink sets in their 2023 Art Collection series. The color palette was inspired by the famous painting that names the set. These are beautifully packaged sets with inks sourced from Diamine.
Almond Flower is a soothing, creamy, cement grey. Diamine makes a lot of inks, but I can’t think of any that are similar. It reminds me of some of my favorite Kala inks, which is a strong compliment in a grey ink. As you can see in the swatch on Cosmo Air Light paper, this is a tan grey with subtle hints of orange. The undertones are strongest on uncoated papers. It’s beautiful with a soft, sophisticated visual feel.
There’s nice shading on uncoated papers, too. This helps the ink convey emotion and adds movement. It’s crisp and sharp on both coated and uncoated papers. All three inks in the set have been clean without any feathering or spread, and bleeding isn’t an issue at all with Almond Flower. As you can see on the Rhodia paper macro below, there’s some darkening on stroke edges on coated papers. This gives it a strong voice.
Like the other two inks in the set, Almond Flower is a fairly wet ink. Flow is smooth, and it was very comfortable on all six of my usual test papers. Drying times were fast on uncoated papers and average on coated papers, which is pretty nice for a wet ink. In writing performance, I can’t think of any negatives or disappointments.
Diamine inks are consistently high-performing writing inks, and BlueBlack have chosen three beautiful colors in creating this set. I love the color palette created by the three. The packaging and labeling on the Art Collection sets are really quite stunning, too. I’m so happy to have this set on my shelf and in my pens!
I think BlueBlack have a real winner in the Art Collection theme. I hope we see them adding more sets in the future to go with the three released so far. These sets are BlueBlack store exclusives. You can find them at their beautiful store in Seoul, or order them online through BlueBlack’s website. Special thanks to BlueBlack for sending me these inks as a surprise gift! As usual, my reviews reflect my honest opinions, and I always include both the good and bad based on my experience using the ink.
