BlueBlack x Diamine - Royal Burgundy
Royal Burgundy is the dark red in the Georges Seurat set from the BlueBlack Pen Shop Art Collection series of three-ink sets. With inks inspired by A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, the iconic painting covers the labels and box of the beautifully packaged set.
These are Diamine inks, and I immediately thought Royal Burgundy was going to be a match for Diamine Oxblood, which is one of my all-time favorites. However, the swatch card comparison shows Royal Burgundy to be a far more earthy burgundy, brick red. At its darkest, it’s a deeper maroon black on coated papers. There’s shading on both paper styles, and on uncoated papers it shows off the beautiful mid-tones, and both lightens and darkens at stroke ends.
Diamine consistently make great inks. Royal Burgundy performs beautifully, as nicely as the others in the set, and as nicely as Oxblood, too! It’s smooth and flows well, both wet and substantive in feel. Drying time was fast to average depending on paper, and I didn’t have any problems with feather, at all. You’ll definitely enjoy the writing experience!
The Art Collection sets are available at BlueBlack’s beautiful shop in Seoul, through their website, or on international shopping site GMarket Global (for inexpensive US shipping cost choose “USPS” for your shipping method). You can also find them at PenGallery in Malaysia.

Special thanks to BlueBlack for sending me these inks as a surprise gift! As usual, my reviews reflect my honest opinions, and I always include both the good and bad based on my experience using the ink.
