BlueBlack x Diamine - Hudson River
Diamine Hudson River is the middle of three blues in BlueBlack’s New York City set. I think this is a blue that a lot of people will enjoy and a good, everyday ink. It’s a very usable color for work, but it has some surprises on coated papers that add personality and set it apart.
The base color ranges from light to dark, powdery, steel blue depending on the paper and nib that you choose. It blends grey and blue in varying levels from paper to paper.
On coated papers, it’s also a dual-shading ink with hints of pinks and peaches in saturated areas and stroke centers. Like the others in the set, a nice, dark edge frames each stroke. On uncoated papers, there’s more influence from the yellow that you see in the chromatography. This gives it the look of river water, too.
If you’ve read my reviews of the other inks in the New York City set, you won’t be surprised to hear that writing performance is excellent. It’s wet in flow, smooth on the page, and well controlled. Drying is always average or better. Based on the chromatography, I’d expect a little bit of water resistance, too.
No disappointments with Diamine Hudson River. It’s an interesting color and writing performance is excellent. BlueBlack’s City Series sets (New York, London, and Seoul) are pretty special. The design and packaging are beautifully done. You can find them through BlueBlack or the GMarket Global shopping site (cheap international shipping). Enjoy!
Special thanks to BlueBlack for surprising me with this amazing set! Their store in Seoul is a must see for pen and ink lovers, and if you have a chance to stop by, definitely do!
