Ancient Charm - The Phoenix
A mysterious beauty! Despite being a well-established brand in China, there’s very little reliable information available regarding brand or company details. In English, the brand is commonly (and confusingly) referred to as both Ancient Charm and Ancient Song. The packaging cites the Xiao Zi Yi Station Stationary Co., but I have not been able to find anything here, either. I’m guessing that this is the in-house ink brand of the Xiao Zi Yi Station chain of stationary stores.
Over the past couple of years, Ancient Charm (Ancient Song) has been slowly becoming more widely available online, and that’s great news for ink lovers. These inks are truly stunning! There are 24 inks that are richly saturated, bold in color, and wildly packed with shimmer. The palette of colors is very well curated and stays away from the ordinary. The dazzling gold and silver shimmers are of a very fine particle, but these aren’t mild shimmer inks.
Called The Phoenix, the name perfectly matches the gorgeous, fiery, pink-scarlet base color and brilliant gold shimmer. There is a strong sense of flames and the feeling that anything could emerge from the ink’s intensity!
It's a lovely ink on paper. There’s a deep, halo edging that adds definition and character. The shimmer is easy to work with and didn’t cause my wet, medium test pens any problems with clogging. Just to be safe, I generally use shimmer ink in pens that are easy to clean and replaceable.
I really like The Phoenix, and I look forward to trying more from this intriguing brand. They’re extremely affordable, and come in nice, 18 ml bottles, but it’s the stunning range of colors that really has me salivating!
