Inkebara - Highland Green
This is Inkebara’s limited edition Highland Green, and it has to be one of the healthiest-looking greens that I’ve seen! Opened in 2016, Inkebara (aka “the Ink Factory”), is a family-run ink maker based in Vysočina, Czech Republic. They offer a wide and growing selection of fountain pen inks, as well as a selection of calligraphy and watercolor inks. They also make custom small-batch inks and have produced a number of independent retailer-branded inks. I’ve reviewed and enjoyed several Inkebara inks sold under the Pióromaniak brand.
Visually, Highland Green is a gorgeous, vibrant, verdant green. It’s the color of fresh sprouts seeking the sun, of juvenile leaves beginning to unfurl to greet the world. It’s inspiring, fresh, and optimistic. It’s the color of life.
As a writing ink, it’s both a writer’s and reader’s ink. It’s wet, smooth-flowing, and jumps off the page. I liked it best on coated papers. Strokes were sharp here, but it was the heavy shading and decent halo that gave it personality, and clarity. I was also very good on uncoated premiums and office copy. Strokes were still quite sharp, although shading and halo both weakened considerably. Drying times were 10-20 seconds on coated premiums, 10-15 on uncoated, and 5 on office copy. This is a lovely, flexible writing ink.
I’m very impressed with Inkebara inks. Like Highland Green, I’ve found them to be rich, vibrant, beautiful in color, and top-quality writing inks. There are a number of retailers that offer Inkebara inks online, and that number seems to be steadily growing. You can find more info at Inkebara.
