Inkebara - Bloody Red
This is Bloody Red from Czech ink maker Inkebara. Also known as The Ink Factory, Inkebara is a family-run operation started in 2016. As of writing, they offer 34 standard inks, have produced 8 special editions, and offer customized small-batch inks to your specifications. They also offer a line of watercolor inks. I know of several independent brands that are actually produced by Inkebara, as well. With growing distribution and energetic aspirations, this is a maker to watch!
Like all Inkebara inks, Bloody Red is dye-based and mixable with others in the line. It’s a beautiful, bright, very organic and earthy red with a strong iron-rich tone that’s reflected perfectly in the name. There’s nice shading both light and dark, and a prominent edging that gives strokes clarity and a bold opinion. Lighter areas show a pretty pinkish red coral shade that adds even more pop to the base color.
Bloody Red is balanced, well-behaved, and flows well on the page. It’s a very nice writing ink. I didn’t have problems with feather or bleed on any of the six papers tested. Coated papers show greater shading and halo, and drying times were average or better overall. Despite the results of the chromatography, water tests smudged considerably, but remained readable. This ink is a pleasure to use.
I strongly recommend Bloody Red, and happily recommend Inkebara. Independent makers that are passionate about the quality of their products and aggressive for success are important drivers of the market. Keep an eye on Inkebara!
