Colorverse - Phantom Visage
Colorverse Phantom Visage is a store-exclusive available from BlueBlack in Seoul, Korea. It was first released in early 2021. Although sold separately, it came out with another ink called King’s Cape. As usual, the packaging and bottle are very nicely done. The name Phantom Visage refers to the face of the phantom, and that’s exactly what stares out from the box and bottle label.
Befitting a phantom, the ink is a rich, shadowy blend of burgundy and purple. It may first make you think of Diamine Oxblood or other deep, dark reds, but the purple influences slowly become more obvious as you fill a page in writing. The splatter reveals a deep green-bronze sheen at the edges of saturation, and on some papers, it subtly tickles the edges of strokes. It isn’t a heavy shading ink, but there is some variation from dark to light (especially on uncoated paper). I often use inks from this color category as my daily, and this is a fresh, very attractive alternative. Check out the beautiful chromatography on the last image!
Phantom Visage is juicy! It’s luxurious and smooth in feel and flow. Colorverse got this just right. I didn’t find any feathering, but predictably with an ink this rich, there was some show-through on uncoated papers with wide medium nibs (Lamy 2000 M) or larger. Fast on uncoated, drying was a bit slower on coated papers. Despite that, the exceptional feel and overall performance make this a very nice writing ink.
I definitely recommend making the effort to get this one. BlueBlack’s prices are really good, and they have a number of interesting, attractive exclusive inks and ink sets, so put together a larger order from their interesting selection of brands and exclusives to offset international shipping costs. Enjoy!
