Colorverse - Methuselah Tree
This is Methuselah Tree from Colorverse’s Earth Edition: Wisdom of Trees series. This is number 57 in the limited/special edition section of their catalog. The name honors a tree in California that is recognized by many as being the oldest, individual living tree at 4,854 years old! (There are two other contenders for the title, but wow! That’s old!)
Methuselah Tree is a very attractive, burnt tomato red. This is a sophisticated red, that substitutes a quiet calm for the frenetic energy that animates lighter, brighter, more classic reds. I actually think you could use this color as a daily go-to, and it wouldn’t feel out of place. There’s a darkened edging in the splatter, and that gives strokes nice, crisp definition. It isn’t the strongest shading ink, but you do get some variation, especially in broader nibs on coated papers.
In writing, Methuselah Tree flows consistently, but this is a fairly dry ink in all but the juiciest nibs. It’s not problematic, but it's noticeably dry in feel. Stroke profile is beautifully clean and sharp, with a slight halo on some papers. Drying time is quick, so this is a great choice for those concerned with smear.
I really like this color, and despite being drier than I normally prefer, I really like this ink. To me, it’s very much like a Robert Oster ink in feel. If that style of ink is good for you, you’ll definitely like Colorverse Methuselah Tree. If not, the color is worth the risk. Enjoy!
