Colorverse - Rainy Day
Rainy Day is from Colorverse Inks’ season 6, Joy in the Ordinary series. Released in late 2019, it’s a six-ink series of muted, dark pastels named for moments or activities that bring joy, the simple pleasures in life. Together, the box art creates a six-piece collage that you can see below. In the Colorverse catalog online, it’s ink number 78. You’ll find the series available in the attractively designed, and nicely priced, 30ml bottles.
Rainy Day is my kind of blue. It’s a dusty, overcast sky, a deep, slate blue. This is a decent shading ink. In lighter areas, it’s the blues when the sun is about to breakthrough a light, morning shower. In darker areas, it’s the much deeper blues of an approaching mid-day storm. In areas of pooling on the ink splatter, both a powdery yellow-green undertone, and a black sheen edge can be seen, but neither significantly carried over to written strokes.
As a writing ink, it performed quite well. I found best results on Rhodia and Kokuyo coated papers. Strokes were crisp and clean, with no feather. Shading and a nice halo added to the beauty on both, and drying times were from 15-30 seconds. It performed nearly as well on Mnemosyne. This is a low-viscosity ink, so it prefers coated papers. On office copy paper, stroke profiles were less disciplined, shading was infrequent, and there was no halo, but it was still usable. On Apica uncoated, however, it was simply unusable.
I really like Colorverse inks. I’ve found them to be consistent and reliable, as well as visually interesting and beautiful. They are truly one of the most innovative makers in the ink world. If you like powdery blues, or are looking for something both unusual and professional, I highly recommend Colorverse Rainy Day!
