Sailor - Ink Studio 224
This is No. 224 from Sailor’s Ink Studio Collection. 224 is one of three inks added in the summer of 2020. 224, 252, and 280 were added (replacing 531, 543, and 864) based on the popularity of the collection’s dual-shading, multi-colored inks, such as 123.
Visually, dual-shading inks always feel a bit like watching a magic trick. In this case, the magic is dazzlingly real! 224 has a lovely blue-grey base color, but it veers off in multiple directions from there, and that’s where the magic happens. As it dries, greens and purples develop and slowly coalesce into a beautiful intermingling of colors. A single stroke can shade into well-defined displays of each color. As the splatter shows, areas of pooling dry to a gorgeous, deep, powdery lavender with dramatic dark edging. In writing, that edging is seen in a strong halo. This is a very attractive ink.
Sailor makes some of the most consistently high-quality inks on the market. As a writing ink, 224 lives up to that heritage. Strokes were sharp and clean. Shading was visible on all six papers, and halo on everything except office copy. Drying was nice at 10-15 seconds on premiums, and under 5 seconds on office copy.
This is a beautiful, mesmerizing ink, but even with all of its tricks, it’s a very nice writing ink. It’s dark enough for extended reading, and usable in any setting. This is a great ink!
I really like Misutgaru. It’s a beautiful, orange tan, and it performs very well. It comes in Sailor’s Manyo bottle and is priced similarly. You can get this series and other very interesting exclusives at BlueBlack online or at their shop in Seoul. Enjoy!
