Sailor - Ink Studio 252
Number 252 is the second of the three Sailor Ink Studio dual-shaders that were added in August 2020. 252 isn’t quite as dramatic as some in the series, but there is color-shifting, and it’s a strong shader! I think the very attractive base color is a bit more unusual, as well.
This is a beautiful ink! Visually, it begins with a faded, plum pink-purple base color. It’s powdery, delicate, and beautifully soft. There’s a subtle grey undertone that accentuates the mood of the unusual base. This is a heavy shader, both light and dark. Lights areas fade to a lovely mauve, and reveal more of the grey, while dark areas dip further into the plums. As you can see next to the splatter, dark areas also reveal a subtle and shy, blue-green component. It struggles to be seen, but it’s clearly in attendance.
As a writing ink, this is another winner, as expected from Sailor. There’s lots of play between the shading and undertones, but the ink is strong and clear. Shading was strongest on coated premiums, but it showed on all papers. A nice edge halo developed on all premium papers, and this contributed to the strong, crisp stroke profile. Drying was quick at 10-15 seconds on premiums, and under 5 seconds on office copy.
This is both a gorgeous ink, and a great writing ink. In most instances, there’s less theatre, in terms of polychromatic display compared with 224, but there’s plenty of dance between pinks and purples, and the hint of blue-green. This ink is unusual, and I really like it!
I really like Misutgaru. It’s a beautiful, orange tan, and it performs very well. It comes in Sailor’s Manyo bottle and is priced similarly. You can get this series and other very interesting exclusives at BlueBlack online or at their shop in Seoul. Enjoy!
