Sailor - Ink Studio 273
I can’t help but look at another of the Sailor Ink Studio selections. Number 273 is part of original collection. It’s an interesting and unusual ink, and the splatter shows some very interesting color variations. Let’s take a closer look!
273 is a delicate, velvety ink, both powdery and comfortable on the eye. The base is a soft, cafe latte brown with lots of shade variation. Light areas develop to faded peachy-caramels on some papers, and pinkish-sepias on others. Dark areas can bring out a deeper, milk chocolate brown. As seen in the splatter, a lovely, powdery violet emerges within areas of pooling, as well as a thick, dark edging. The violet was not seen in writing, but the edging becomes a nice stroke halo on many premium papers.
As a writing ink, 273 has a nice, smooth flow, and is somewhere between wet and dry. Strokes were sharp on all test papers, and this is a comfortable reading ink. While the edge halo added depth to stroke definition on premium papers, shading was prevalent on all papers, and really gave the ink a vivid personality. Drying was average at 15 seconds on most premiums, and under 5 seconds on office copy.
I love the addition of the violet in the splatter, and the peaches and pinks that emerge on some papers, but I’d really prefer to see a lot more of them. Sailor Ink Studio 273 is a nice writing ink, as expected, and overall, this is a very pleasing ink. I recommend medium nibs or wider to get the most out of the variations.
