Yuyi Inks - Jadeite Peacock
I don’t have a lot of information on Yuyi. On the Fountain Pen Companion website, it’s grouped under a brand called Memory Fish. I don’t have any information to verify this connection, but I have included both names in the brands page here, as well.
Jadeite Peacock is my second ink from Yuyi’s Tropical Fish series. I found Yuyi on AliExpress. Tropical Fish is a sixteen-ink, shimmer series, but this is only one of a number of series that they offer. At US$4 per 20ml bottle including shipping, I had to try a few, and so far, I’m impressed!
Jadeite Peacock is a beautiful, dark olive-forest green with brilliant gold shimmer. I really like this color. It’s dark in writing, but it stands out clearly as a green. The gold sparkle of the shimmer has a slight bronze quality that goes beautifully with the earthiness of the green. As you can see on the swatch card, there’s a bit of shading at stroke ends, adding a visual variety that I don’t usually expect in a shimmer ink.
In writing, Jadeite Peacock has a rich, wet, somewhat viscous flow, but not as exaggerated as Yuyi Agil Pro or Blood Parrot. Like the other two, it’s very comfortable on the page. Drying is slightly faster this time, as well, but it’s still much slower than average. If you can overlook the drying time, this is a very pleasant writing ink.
These Yuyi inks are a real bargain. Jadeite Peacock is a very beautiful green, and Yuyi’s shimmer hasn’t caused any problems, so far. I used to be a bit hesitant to try some of the inexpensive inks I find on shopping sites, and that’s a shame. There are some real gems out there. I recommend giving Yuyi a try. I’m certainly glad that I did!
