Weenk - Kitsch Magenta
Weenk Kitsch Magenta (키치 마젠타) is one of two inks in Vol. 1 Kitsch Funk, and it is all the best kind of funky! I love the name of the series and this ink. It’s so appropriate! Kitsch Magenta is very showy, but it’s also very attractive.
This ink flexes its wild side in a deep, saturated magenta blend of pink and red. There’s no mistaking the color here. If you like magentas, this is a powerful example. The name makes even more sense, when you see the brilliant blue violet shimmer. It’s a bold choice to add blue shimmer to a magenta, but it in my opinion it really works! Despite the shimmer, I found surprisingly good shading, too. There’s also a dark, defined edge on saturated areas of strokes that seems to capture most of the shimmer allowing light areas to showcase a softer, sakura pink. The contrast from light to dark is nice.
This is a wet ink in flow (all four Weenk inks that I’ve tried so far have been wet and comfortable). Feathering wasn’t a problem on any of the good papers that I use for testing, but there’s a touch of spreading on cheap office copy paper. There’s some show-through on uncoated papers, but only an occassional spot of bleed-through.
This is a fantastic ink for use with glass nibs, and it was fine in pens that I know work well with shimmer inks. My TWSBI Go had a bit of trouble with the shimmer, but it was a very shimmery fill from the bottom of the bottle. My Moonman T1 didn’t, and being gentle with the bottle when filling should avoid problems for many pens.
Weenk Kitsch Magenta is an explosion of pink! It’s a beautiful, rich magenta, and the light shaded areas are really eye-catching. You need to be a bit careful when filling to avoid getting too much shimmer, but the shimmer really makes the ink special! You can find it in 15 ml and 50 ml bottles. Weenk’s bottles and packaging are both done very well, too.
Weenk kindly sent me this and several other inks to try. You can find information on Weenk inks through their website (www.weenk.kr). In Korea, you can order from online retailers like www.penshop.co.kr, (www.BlueBlack.kr offers international shipping), and select stores. They’re looking to widen their distribution overseas, so keep an eye out.
