Weenk - Deep Highlands
The third ink in Weenk’s Vol. 3 Slow Adventure series is Deep Highlands. It’s a fresh and vibrant green, and like the others in the series, it’s a shimmer ink. The series was inspired by Korea’s wetlands, and the inks match the theme quite well.
Weenk Deep Highlands is interesting. It’s very much a lush, highlands green. Some papers bring out more of the yellow influences, while others take it closer to an emerald green with only a hint of yellow in shading. Check out the swatch comparison images on Tomoe River (original) and Cosmo Air Light to see what I mean. In both styles, the green is brilliant and inviting.
Weenk’s shimmers have been largely trouble-free, and I’ve really been enjoying them in look and use. Here, it’s a mix of blue, silver, and I think a touch of gold. It looks great against the greens. Shading is really nice again, too. I found nice variation on both coated and uncoated papers.
This is a wet, well-lubricated ink that is very comfortable in writing. There’s a nice stroke profile edge, and I didn’t have any problems with feathering. Show-through was very minimal on high-quality papers, but there’s a bit on cheap office copy paper (no surprises, right?) This is a nice writing ink.
I can see myself often reaching for Deep Highlands. It’s a beautiful green, and the touch of yellow makes it much more interesting to me than a standard emerald. The shimmer never takes away from the color. It decorates, but never disturbs in look or writing experience.
It’s available in 15 ml or 50 ml bottles. In Korea, you can find it in select stores, or online at places like www.penshop.co.kr. For international orders, your best bet may be www.BlueBlack.kr. It will be more widely available overseas in time. Check Weenk’s website (www.weenk.kr) to see the whole collection of inks, glass, leather, and paper stationery products.
I purchased a couple of bottles at the 2024 Seoul Spring Pen Show, and they kindly offered to send this and several more to try.
