Visconti - Sunflowers
Visconti Sunflowers goes very well with their Van Gogh pen of the same name. Since 2021, they’ve offered the Van Gogh ink series individually in nice, square, glass, 30ml bottles, so buying the pen is not a requirement to enjoy this lovely ink.
I’d call this a caramel mustard brown. It’s a friendly, very attractive ink, but only in shading do the most sunflower yellows reveal themselves. In darker, more saturated areas, it produces a rich, golden amber brown. It’s a very pleasant ink and never tiring visually, as words fill a page. Shading is moderate, but consistent. On coated papers, it’s more abrupt, and there’s a creamy glow and a darkened stroke edging.
Writing performance is excellent. It’s neither wet nor dry, and smooth on the page. On all papers tested, stroke profiles were clean. On coated papers, the darkened edge makes it pop and contrasts nicely against the stroke centers. On uncoated papers, it maintains a nice line with no real spreading issues at all. Drying was very fast on uncoated papers, and better than average on coated papers, too.
Visconti Sunflowers is a real pleaser. It’s appropriate in any setting, extremely readable and never tires the eyes, and it performs brilliantly. If this is a color range that interests you, Sunflowers is a great ink to consider. I highly recommend it! You’ll find it for around US$19 at many popular online retailers, or for 14 Euros directly from Visconti.
