Vinta - Salimbay
Vinta’s Salimbay immediately seduced me with its gorgeous, multi-faceted beauty and writing performance! This is the second ink that I’ve featured from Vinta’s five-ink Fairytale Collection. Vinta calls this ink “Plume” in English. It was inspired by the story of a princess who transforms into a bird to fly to her lover.
Salimbay is truly spectacular, and it may be my favorite of the many Vinta inks that I’ve tried. Check out the chromatography! This is a complex blend of lilac and blue with occasional hints of pink peeking through. An unusual, and extremely attractive pink-gold shimmer helps bring out the pink undertones. Nice shading on both coated and uncoated papers really helps showcase the many faces of this ink. There is an almost fluorescent glow to the lilac-blue base that is simply mesmerizing!
Like Lakambini (previously reviewed), Salimbay is a wonderful writing ink without feather or bleed-through. Due to both the color, and the shimmer component, I’d recommend medium or broader nibs with good flow. It’s a somewhat wet ink, and I didn’t have any problems with clogging, but wider nibs will allow the ink’s color variations to flourish. The shimmer is very restrained and only lightly accents strokes, so there were no problems with smearing, either. I really enjoy using this ink.
I definitely recommend Vinta Salimbay, and I’ll replace my sample with a bottle. Online prices average US$15 per 30 ml bottle, a reasonable price for such a beautiful, high-performing ink. Like all Vinta inks, P25 (US$0.45) from each bottle goes to Teach for the Philippines, a charity helping underprivileged Filipino kids access quality education.
