Vinta - Heritage Brown Pamana
Today’s ink, Heritage Brown Pamana 2018, is part of Vinta’s Heritage series. These are inks that proudly represent the Filipino culture. Released in 2019, it commemorates Vinta’s one-year anniversary. The Tagalog word “pamana” translates to “heritage” in English, and 2018 is the year Vinta Inks was established.
At first glance, this is a rich, dark chocolate brown, but it quickly reveals a more complex personality. Undertones of reddish-caramel, muted oranges, and soft peach tease the eye in areas of shading. In time, Pamana’s harlequin persona appears in the form of a brilliant green-gold sheen that heavily coats the edges of areas of wet application and pooling. The sheen masks a halo edge giving strokes vibrant, sparkling, green-gold borders. Visually, Pamana is a decadent celebration.
As a writing ink, it performs well. It’s loud and full-bodied on coated papers, displaying all of its character. In my tests, it performed best on Rhodia, Mnemosyne, and Kokuyo, with no feather, a nice sheen and halo, and some shading. However, drying times here were a bit long (45-60 seconds). Pamana is more tempered and restrained on office copy paper. There was little or no feather or sheen, but it was quite appealing.
Drying time was a very fast 5-7 seconds. This makes the ink usable in any situation, if desired. However, in my opinion, there plenty of simple browns that are well-suited to more staid situations. Pamana should be used in all of its unhindered, costumed glory. Use it with coated papers and juicy nibs to get the most out of it. Against the delicious chocolate backdrop, it’s spectacular!
For each bottle sold, Vinta gives P25 (US$.52) to Teach for the Philippines, a charity providing access to education. A heritage ink enriching the heritage of the Philippines!
