Van Dieman’s - Tassie Salmon
Tassie Salmon is from Australian ink maker, Van Dieman’s Ink. Located in Tasmania (“Tassie”), they say their inks are “inspired by the rich and majestic colours of Tasmania.” The name Tassie Salmon pays tribute to the beautiful salmon that are produced in abundance in Tasmania. It’s one of the four summer inks from Van Dieman’s 5th series, Tassie Seasons.
Visually, Tassie Salmon accomplishes the difficult. It’s both a soft, delicate, powdery salmon, and a strong, bold, highly readable ink. They describe it as, “a pinky red with amazing shading qualities, designed with artists in mind...” It’s that, and more! There’s a beautiful cloudy aspect to the coloration and shading that gives the ink a very comfortable feeling. It lightens to a peach-pink, and darkens to a grapefruit-tomato red. It’s lovely!
As a writing ink, Tassie Salmon looked good on both premium and office copy papers. It performed very well on coated premiums (Rhodia, Mnemosyne, and Kokuyo). It was more muted, but almost as nice on uncoated Apica, as well. Strokes were slightly sharper on coated papers, but they were still clean on both Apica and office copy. Shading was great on all five. The only real halo was on Rhodia and Mnemosyne. Drying times were 10-25 seconds on the premiums, and 5 seconds on office copy. This is a nice, versatile writing ink.
I like Van Dieman’s inks, and Tassie Salmon is a good one! If you’re looking for a soft salmon, with high readability, and flexibility, consider this one. It’s delicious!
