Troublemaker - Adarna
Troublemaker is probably best known for their delicious chroma-shifting or multichromatic inks, but they’ve also put out some pretty dramatic sheening inks, as well. Troublemaker Adarna is a great example. Adarna is one of their early inks, and I’m not sure that it’s been re-released since they restructured their operations in 2020 and 2021. However, the owners have mentioned wanting to re-introduce their early inks, so we may see it available again.
Named for a legendary bird with healing powers from a 16th century epic poem, this brightly colored super-sheener has the bold color and the metallic glow of a hummingbird’s feathers. Adarna is a deep, rich magenta with a brilliant green-gold sheen. It instantly grabs your attention! It’s also a decent shader in the right nib and paper combination showing bold dark pinks, as well as plum purples. This ink puts on quite a show!
Like many other heavy sheeners, it’s a syrupy, viscous ink. It writes beautifully on the page. The sheen creates a bold edging that outlines strokes on many papers, and like a gasp for air, the shading adds whispers of light from time to time. Drying is a bit longer than average, but that’s common for sheening inks.
I’d be careful using it in demonstrators or pens prone to staining. I haven’t had any problems, but I’m careful with inks like this. Troublemaker Adarna is a beautiful ink, and I definitely think it’s an ink to enjoy. If you can find some, grab it! You won’t be disappointed.
