Tono & Lims - A1 Harvest Rice
This is another champion on the page, a beautiful writing ink that is spot on color trends. This is A-1 Harvest Rice from Tono & Lims. It’s the first of the 3-ink Harvest set that is part of the Producer series of mixable inks. It resembles the color of a paddy of mature rice plants ready for harvest.
Visually, this is a gorgeous saffron-mustard yellow. It’s dusty and powdery in appearance, with subtle hints of green and grey on uncoated papers. Coated papers release incredible shading, with bright light areas contrasting darker areas of deeper, brownish yellows. This ink is rich and hearty, but gentle and sensitive at the same time. The blending of shades is beautifully graceful and quite dramatic.
As a writing ink, Harvest Rice is perfectly formulated. It’s neither wet, nor dry, but is comfortable and smooth on the page. Strokes were clean, sharp, and rich on all six test papers, but there are real differences between coated and uncoated papers. While it’s confident and sure on uncoated papers, it’s less reserved and more theatrical on coated papers. In both cases, it’s reliable, well-behaved, and clean. It’s a great writing ink!
I’m a big fan of Tono & Lims inks, and I think this is one of their best, in terms of performance and writing experience. Equally important, this ink is beautiful on the page! Use it with coated papers for maximum “wow!”
