Starry Ink - Laputan
Laputan is another of the four inks in season three of the Sodapop series from Starry Inks. Season three inks are sheening inks, and they come with a packet of gold shimmer powder and a small spoon. You can add the shimmer as you like, or not at all. It’s a bit of extra fun if you like to experiment!
Laputan is a nice, forest green with subtle blue undertones. There’s also a greyish quality on some papers that I really like. To me, it’s much more interesting than a standard forest green. Interestingly, on office copy paper, it’s more a dark emerald than forest green.
Sheening is quite strong on some papers, but not on all. As the swatches on Cosmo Air Light and Tomoe River show, the differences are pretty dramatic! On most of my high-quality papers, sheening in writing was fairly dominant. In fact, it actually overpowered the shimmer! On copy papers, there’s no sheen at all, and the color really stands out.
I used the handle of the spoon to add a small scoop of shimmer to a 5 ml vial. (I always add the same amount.) I didn’t have any problems at all with flow or clogging in both a Moonman T1 and a TWSBI Eco. Performance was very nice. Flow is rich, and neutral, and the ink is very comfortable in writing. There was some show-through on office copy, but little on other papers. Drying was a touch over average, but that’s not bad for a heavy sheening ink!
I like Laputan, but I don’t normally go for super sheeners, and it’s a bit much for me on some papers. On some though, it was just right. It’s a really nice writing ink, too. You can find Laputan in the 4-ink, 5 ml season three set, or in a single 35 ml bottle. Starry Ink have a lot of interesting inks, and their prices are great, too! Check AliExpress for now, but Starry Ink will soon have a new website with shipping options, so you can get them direct. Enjoy!
Special thanks to @starryink_official for sending Laputan and a bunch of other inks and papers over to try!
