Robert Oster - Silver Fire & Ice
Today, we’re looking at Silver Fire & Ice. This ink comes from Robert Oster’s Shake ‘n’ Shimmy collection of shimmering inks. I really think they’ve done a nice job with this ink. The name matches the ink perfectly, and if you’re not a fan of shimmer inks, you’re in luck. There’s a non-shimmer version called Fire & Ice available, as well! I look at that in a separate review.
Silver Fire & Ice starts with a beautiful, icy-cool, dark turquoise blue. It’s rich, saturated, and grabs your attention. There are occasional flashes of a lighter aqua blue at stroke ends, but this isn’t a strong shading ink, and it’s rarely visible. Wet areas develop an unusual multi-colored edge sheen. It’s primarily a pink-magenta, but there are prominent oranges and reds, as well, truly giving it a fiery appearance. A brilliant silver shimmer generously blankets wet areas. Robert Oster shimmers are always nice, and this is no exception. Together, this ink is quite captivating, and the longer you look, the more you see!
This is a very nice writing ink. Robert Oster inks are sometimes a bit dry, but that isn’t the case here. This is a rich, saturated ink that flows consistently and glides across the page. The shimmer is very fine-particle and didn’t cause any issues with flow or maintenance. The writing experience is pure pleasure!
Silver Fire & Ice highlights a lot of the things Robert Oster does so well. If you like shimmers, I definitely recommend it. If you don’t, it’s a great introduction, but there’s always the non-shimmer Fire & Ice version!
