Pentonote - Mochizuri No Namida
Pentonote is located in Fukushima City, Japan. It’s a shop (and cafe) born of both generational stationery expertise and the love of notebooks, fountain pens and inks. If every city had a shop like Pentonote, there would be a lot more smiles in the world! They have a really nice selection of store exclusive pens (Sailors and Pilots) and inks (Sailor and Tono&Lims), as well as several series of inks under their own brand.
This is Mochizuri No Namida (Tears of Mochizuri). It’s number 8 in Pentonote’s Letters From Fukushima series. The ink is made by Sailor. It’s a beautiful, gentle ink with a mysterious personality. The color has a poetic quality that I think many will like.
The base color runs from a delicate, pinkish plum to more of a dusty pink depending on the paper. There are hints of organic greys and yellowish browns on some that remind me of fallen plum blossom petals swirling on the ground as their colors decay. There’s nice shading which helps accentuate the soft tonal shifts in intensity.
Performance was very good (Sailor inks are very consistent in that way.) A pronounced stroke profile edging highlights sharp, clean lines. I didn’t have any problems with feathering, show through or bleed at all. Drying times were just longer than average on coated papers, but very quick on uncoated papers.
This is my only ink from the Letters From Fukushima series, but I definitely recommend Mochizuri No Namida (no. 8). I also urge you to check out Pentonote’s website. The backstory is inspiring, and they have some amazing, limited-edition collaborations. They have a handy link for international forwarding, as well.
