Pennonia - Rézvörös
This is Rézvörös (Copper) from Pennonia. A boutique ink-maker based in Carei, Romania, and Budapest, Hungary, they have only been producing inks since 2019, but are quickly finding success. According to their website, the name Rézvörös doesn’t have a real backstory, it simply matches the color.
Visually, this is a soft, pleasant ink. It’s a lovely combination of red & orange, and has a milkiness when laid to paper. To me, it’s the color of a fruit, not a metal ore. I see it as the flesh of a luscious, ripe papaya. There is no shimmer or sheen, but it’s a lovely shader. Lights lean towards coral or salmon, while darks pick up on the tomato reds. Both show on all 5 test papers, but were strongest on Mnemosyne, Apica, and office copy. It’s a water-resistant ink. In my tests, the ink darkened leaving complete strokes with very little blur.
As a writing ink, Rézvörös performed well, and was usable on all 5 test papers. Stroke profiles were clean with no feather. It was sharpest on Rhodia and Kokuyo, and they rated highest. The other 3 rated “very good”. A subtle stroke halo can be seen on premium papers, but never fully develops. Drying times were 20-30 seconds on premium papers, and 10 seconds on office copy. It’s a nice, versatile ink, and performs well on a wide range of papers. I don’t have anything quite like it, and it suits various occasions. Both Pennonia and Rézvörös are easy to recommend.
