Pelikan Edelstein - Jade - Ink drop

Today’s ink is Pelikan Edelstein Jade. It’s a very attractive ink in person, but I need to apologize. It’s a very difficult ink to capture accurately in photos. The splatters are very accurate, but the swatch card is far off. I try very hard to make sure my pictures truly represent the inks, but this one just wouldn’t cooperate, so I’m sorry. The real color best matches the splatter image.

Visually, this is a beautiful green teal. There are heavy influences of blue, but green is the dominant of the two. Written strokes match some examples of the namesake gem fairly well, but unfortunately, it’s the airport kitsch, faux jade variety. As an ink, though, it’s beautiful! There’s nice shading, and a strong, defining edge halo. The splatter shows some cinnamon sheening, but very little is seen in writing.

Pelikan makes very nice writing inks, and Edelstein is their premiere series. So, it’s no surprise that this is a nice ink, both in the pen and on the page. Strokes were very sharp and clean. The strong edge halo and shading seen in premium papers make it a bold, confident ink in personality. Drying was very fast, too. Premiums were 10-15 seconds, except for Fabriano, which was under 5! Office copy was under 5, as well. This is a nice writing ink.

This is a pretty ink, with dramatic shading and edge halo. It’s also a great writing ink. Edelstein inks are a little on the expensive side, but in this case, it’s worth it!
