Organics Studio - Eggplant
Eggplant Shimmer is a limited-edition ink from Organics Studio, and it was created for the 2019 Baltimore-Washington Pen Show. It was inspired by the eggplant emoji (ha), and apparently, it’s part of the Emoji series.
To be honest, I don’t see a strong resemblance to the color of the emoji, or to the standard western eggplant, but I like what I see! Visually, the color matches the smaller, round, Thai eggplant. It’s a glowing purple with both white and blue influences. It’s soft, yet bold, and pops off the page. It’s a very attractive base color. This is a shimmer ink, and it has a soft, powdery silver shimmer that mixes beautifully with the base. In the splatter, a brassy gold sheen edges areas of pooling. On coated papers, it can also be seen on written strokes. There was slight shading on some papers, but this is not a particularly strong shading ink.
As a writing ink, Eggplant Shimmer was sharp and clean on all five test papers. There was no feather or blur. While shading went to Mnemosyne and Apica, Sheen was strongest on Mnemosyne and Kokuyo. Drying was 10-20 seconds on Rhodia and Mnemosyne, 5-15 on Kokuyo and Apica, and under 5 seconds on office copy. It’s a nice, smooth, wet ink, and neither low, nor high in viscosity. It performed well on all five papers.
The base color of Eggplant Shimmer immediately became one of my favorite purples. Not only is this an attractive ink, but it’s a nice writer that works on a wide range of papers. This ink is getting harder to find now, and I wish I’d found it sooner. If you can find a bottle, grab it!
