Monteverde - Turtle
Monteverde Turtle is one of two inks Yafa Brands sent to me from the Jungle Ink collection. Inks in the collection are named for animals, but there’s not always a clear connection between the animals and colors paired.
Turtle is the lighter of the two blues in the ten-ink collection. It’s the aquamarine blue where the water of a beautiful, tropical sea reaches out for the shore. It’s gentle and relaxed on some papers, and more intense on others. Light blues can sometimes be too unsaturated to comfortably read over long periods, but that isn’t a problem here.
The spread and feather on the ink splat image worried me, but thankfully, writing performance was better on the six papers used for testing. I did find some minor feathering on several of of the uncoated premium papers, but it was crisp and sharp on both Cosmo Air Light and Snow, on Tomoe River, and on Midori MD, as well. On cheap copy paper, there’s some spreading, but it wasn’t as bad as expected. I recommend using finer nibs to minimize these concerns.
There’s a more textured feel to this ink compared to most of the Monteverde inks that I’ve tried. It’s wet in flow, but drier in feel. Drying times were average or better on all papers tested.
You’ll quickly find Monteverde Turtle growing on you in terms of color. You think it’s a standard light blue, but soon see that it has a nice depth that sets it apart. If you like finer nibs or choose your papers carefully, and don’t mind a bit of feel in your writing experience, you’ll probably enjoy this ink very much. The Jungle Ink collection inks are available individually or as a set, and Monteverde inks are always priced well.
