Monteverde - 2022 DC Show Violet
Created for the 2022 DC Supershow, Violet is arguably more a violet blue than a blue violet. I think this is the fifth ink Monteverde has made for the DC pen show (2015, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022).
In larger swatches, this is a very attractive ink with lots of variety from bluer to more violet and purple in some instances. The chromatography is a vibrant blast of pink and light blue. While it’s more restrained in writing, this is a well-saturated ink. There is a little more blue than I expected on some of the papers tested. There are whispers of violet, but overall, I’d love to see more. That said, it’s a very attractive ink.
You can see good shading on Cosmo Air Light and Cosmo Air Snow, but on most papers, shading is moderate at best. With greater shading, I think we’d see more of the lighter violets.
This is a very wet, saturated ink. Monteverde’s ITF (Ink Treatment Formula) is designed to promote flow, and this ink definitely flows smoothly.
Strokes were clean and sharp on Cosmo Air Light, Cosmo Air Snow, Tomoe River, Midori MD, and Profolio Oasis papers. It’s nice on high-quality copy paper, too. On Mnemosyne and Fabriano, I found significant feathering. Show-through and a bit of bleed were also problems on the uncoated papers I tested.
If the color appeals to you, stick with premium coated papers (other than Mnemosyne), and you’ll be pleased with Monteverde’s 2022 DC Supershow Violet. Monteverde inks are always priced nicely and widely available.
