Lamy Crystal - Azurite
Azurite is the first ink in Lamy’s Crystal line that I have had the opportunity to try. It's also the one that most immediately grabbed my attention. It was the punchy boldness of the saturated color, and the swirling hints of golden-green sheen that caught my eye, and Azurite did not disappoint!
Based on its namesake mineral, which is generally a dark blue, I expected the ink to appear as a darker blue, but Lamy Azurite is more of a strong, dark violet. It’s a gorgeous color that eagerly jumps off the page. As you can see in both the splash and the swatch, Azurite is armed with an electric gold-green sheen. At its lightest, the golden-green sheen dances across the swatch in gusts of color. In areas of wetter application and pooling, it oozes across the inky violet background.
This is a nice writing ink, with traces of that same golden green sheen on the edges of strokes under the splash (Rhodia 80g). Strokes on the swatch card are clear and well-defined in a pure, deep violet. Azurite is a well-behaved ink that dries quite quickly.
Lamy has always been known for making reliable, consistent, high-performing inks. If Azurite is any indication, the Lamy Crystal line continues that tradition. Enjoy!
