KWZ Ink - Brown No. 4 (Pioroteka)
Today’s ink is KWZ Brown No. 4 that was prepared as a commemorative gift from Pióroteka to mark the 2019 Katowice, Poland pen show. Pióroteka is an online pen, ink, and stationery retailer, with a store in Warsaw, Poland.
Visually, this is a rich, dark, chocolate pudding brown with subtle red undertones. It’s highly saturated, and in writing on coated papers it can be quite dark. It’s also a high-viscosity ink, so shading is moderate in some cases, and strong in others. However, light areas really pop in a lovely, faded mocha caramel, with just a hint of pink. The combination of rich darks and vibrant, light accents works well in these browns.
As a writing ink, Pióroteka chose well in working with KWZ. This special edition writes reliably and consistently. It’s smooth flowing, and it feels great on paper. Strokes were well-defined on premium papers, both coated and uncoated. There was a bit of feather and bleed on office copy, but it was still very usable. Shading was strongest on Mnemosyne and Apica, but it was fairly nice on all six papers tested. Drying time is the only aspect that might disappoint. It ranged from 35-55 seconds on coated premiums, 20-40 on uncoated premiums, but just 5 seconds on office copy.
This is a very delicious, rich, dark chocolate brown, and a nice writing ink on good paper. I’m happy to recommend this lovely ink. Even though the Pióroteka Poland pen show version has never been for sale beyond the show or possibly in the shop, the ink is available as KWZ Brown No. 4. It’s unique, and I think you’ll appreciate its beautiful coloration.
