Fanyantan - (21) Summer Evening Sky
Another mysterious, complex, multi-chromatic ink from Fanyantan Studio. This is number 21, Summer Evening Sky. All of the shading and blending of color in this beautiful and unusual ink match the name perfectly!
Summer Evening Sky’s base color is a very appealing peach orange. This ink shades on some papers, and the shading leans dark more often than light. Dark areas pick up much richer, almost burnt Halloween pumpkin oranges and brown-reds. Visible on both the splatter and in writing, wet areas develop hints of powdery lavender which works beautifully against the strong, burnt oranges. In its full glory, it’s a strangely attractive ink.
This is a nice writing ink, too. It’s fairly wet, and it flows quite comfortably. Coated papers bring out more character and depth, but it performed well on all premium papers. Drying was slightly faster than average, and that always pleases me. No complaints at all!
I’ve quickly become a big fan of Fanyantan inks, and I think you’ll enjoy Summer Evening Sky (number 21), as much as I do. These aren’t easy inks to find, and I hope that changes at some point. If you’re interested, check AliExpress, or Taobao for best prices, but you’ll likely find sellers on Amazon or eBay, too.
