Diamine - Ancient Copper
Diamine offers a wide selection of inks. In terms of selection, they’re one of the largest brands on the market. Today’s ink is one of their most popular, a true superstar. You often hear Diamine Ancient Copper listed among people’s favorite inks, and for good reason!
Ancient Copper is a deep, rich, heavily saturated blend of reddish orange and brown. It’s a gorgeous burnt rust that oozes satisfaction. There’s a charred black edging to areas of wet application, modest but consistent shading, and hints of brownish bronze sheen. It’s a plush, luxurious ink that easily captivates both writer and reader!
As a writing ink, there’s many reasons to love Ancient Copper. It’s the perfect blend of viscosity and smooth flow. Stroke profiles were clean and crisp on all six test papers. A bit of shading, and the edge halo make it pleasing and attractive, particularly on coated papers. The glint of sheen surprised me in spots on stroke edges on almost all of the six papers, as well. Drying was neither fast, nor slow, but didn’t cause any problems. However, I did find one troubling quality. Although it performs well on some pens, this ink can cause significant crusting on others. I’m not sure why it happens on some and not others, but it does. When you find a compatible match, it's lovely.
There’s good reason that this ink gets so much praise and attention. It’s both beautiful to the eye, and a joy to use in the right pens. However, I don’t enjoy crusting. I use it regularly in pens that I’ve found compatible, but it’s something to consider. If you do like Ancient Copper, Diamine inks are some of the best priced deals on the market. Good luck, and enjoy!
