The name Gyeongnyeolbi-Yeoldo is probably quite a complicated handful to pronounce at first (and probably second) glance. I assure you, though, in Korean the name (격렬비열도) is not nearly that difficult. The name [pronounced Gyung-Nyul-Bee Yull-Doh] refers to a group of three outcroppings (two uninhabited) in the sea west of the Korean peninsula. Together they are called Gyeongnyeolbi-Yeoldo and make up the western-most islands in Korea. Appropriately, this ink is from Colorverse’s Korea Special Ink series.

From the box art, it’s clear that the color is inspired by the green of the sea. I see it as a jade aquamarine. It’s a very appealing green and not especially common. I find that most light green aquamarines lean slightly more towards their blue influences. On most papers, you don’t get much blue here. It’s much more a true, light-to-medium jade green. Shading is very nice on many papers, and really highlights the lighter colors in the swatches, as well as the medium and darker tones.

This is definitely a wet ink, and in some cases that can lead to an ink that is more prone to feathering. On most premium papers, feathering wasn’t a problem at all. However, I did find some issues with feathering on low-quality, uncoated papers, like office copy paper. My test pen was a juicy medium Jowo, and that problem might be solved by using a fine or extra fine nib. On all papers, I found that this ink is very sensitive to fingerprints, so be careful.

On the plus side, the flow is smooth, and it’s very comfortable on the page. There is little or no showthrough or bleed in normal writing on almost all papers. Drying was fast, too.

From light to dark, I really like the range of jade greens in Colorverse Gyeongnyeolbi-Yeoldo. The Korea Special Ink series has quite a few really interesting, attractive colors and this is another example. On good papers (and if you’re careful about fingerprints), writing looks great, but don’t use this one with low-quality papers. If that’s not a problem, I think you’ll like it. You’ll find it easily available in the the 15 ml bottle. Enjoy!

Thanks to Colorverse for sending this and a few others over as a gift. It is very much appreciated!

And as always, whether I buy inks or pens or receive them as gifts, my reviews aren’t influenced in any way. I love finding new favorites, but if there’s a problem, I always mention it.
