Antigua’s - Moss Green
I’m not sure why, but before opening Antigua’s Moss Green, I expected something more plant green and with a bit more yellow. I’d forgotten just how brilliantly green actual moss can be!
Antigua’s Moss Green is a potent and rich green somewhere between an Irish green and a slightly dark emerald green. This is an attractive example of what I think of as a traditional and quite popular green for many people. It’s a very office-friendly kind of green, but there’s enough pop to make it fun and outgoing, too. On coated papers, you’ll find shading on stroke ends. It isn’t as dramatic as the shading on Antigua’s Toffee, but it adds nice accents and variation. On uncoated papers, there’s almost no shading, but the green is brighter and pops nicely.
This is the fifth Antigua’s ink that I’ve tried, and reliability and good performance seem to be standard qualities of the brand. Overall, you shouldn’t worry about feather or spread. There was some micro-feathering on Mnemosyne, but on all of the other papers tested it was clean and sharp.
On the swatches, there’s some red sheen in saturated areas, but I didn’t find any to mention in normal writing. On some uncoated papers, show-through was moderate, but I kind of expect that in a rich green. It’s fairly wet and smooth in flow, and very comfortable in use. Drying was better than average, too.
Antigua’s Moss Green is a crowd-pleaser! It’s a confident green that performs well. At EUR11.99 for a beautiful 50 ml bottle that would look great on a desk, it’s a great choice for a daily ink. You can find them at www.antiguas.es. (And good news! Starting in January 2024, full international shipping will be available!)
Special thanks to Miguel Angel at Antigua’s for providing the ink (but his generosity hasn’t influenced my review in any way), and to Maria at www.inksinspiration.com for sending them as a surprise! Check out both of their websites!
