Antigua’s - Fuchsia
Antigua’s makes some beautifully rich, saturated colors, and Fuchsia is exactly that, and more! It’s probably not going to be your first choice for work, but it’s definitely a very fun ink!
Antigua’s Fuchsia is as intense as you’d expect from the name. It’s a dark and loud fuchsia, dark enough that I really want to call it a magenta at times. Red undertones are stronger on some papers than others, and it’s especially noticeable when the ink is wet.
You’ll find good shading on coated papers. There’s a brilliant olive-gold sheen on the ink drop image on Rhodia, and on the ink swatch on Tomoe River, too. In writing, it’s more reserved. You won’t notice it unless you look from an angle in the right light, but you may find a thin stroke edge sheen on some coated papers.
Fuchsia is a wet ink, but it doesn’t feel watery. Flow is smooth and well lubricated. It’s very pleasant in feel. Drying was a bit longer than average on coated papers, but not too bad. Writing experience is very nice.
Performance was very nice on coated papers. Strokes were clean and sharp. On uncoated papers, there’s some micro-feathering. It breaks the stroke profile slightly in places, but it doesn’t feather wildly. There’s some show-through on uncoated papers, but not a lot of bleeding. Overall, it’s better on some papers than others, but it’s usable on all.
All Antigua’s inks come in the beautiful 50 ml bottle you’ll recognize from Pelikan’s Edelstein series. You can get them for €11.99 at www.antiguas.es. Take a look at the handmade, Antigua’s pens, too!
Special thanks to Miguel Angel at Antigua’s for gifting me with the inks, and to Maria at www.inksinspiration.com for sending them! Check out both of their websites!
